계양산 소나무 농성 100일을 보낸 윤인중 목사

봄이라고 하지만, 아직 날씨가 차갑다.

지난 겨울부터 꽃샘추위가 유난히 심했던 봄을 보내고 이젠 초록빛으로 물들어가는 계양산 소나무 위에는 윤인중 목사가 농성 100일째(3월 29일)를 맞이하고 있었다. 그가 소나무 편지에서 쓴 것처럼 아침 해가 돋을 때 해맞이기도로 하루를 시작했을 것이다.

인천에 하나뿐인 산, 그곳에 골프장을 짓겠다고 한다. 녹색사막 골프장이 생기면 사라질 것들이 하나둘 눈에 들어온다.

어제 종일 내린 비로 인해 풀잎마다 이슬을 총총하게 맺고는 아침 햇살에 바스러지고 있다. 골프장이 생기면 오로지 한 종류의 풀, 잔디에만 잠시 맺혔다 사라지겠거니 생각하며 계곡을 따라 걷는다.

개구리알과 도롱뇽 알, 막 싹을 올리고 꽃을 피우는 작은 것들이 옹기종기 모여 하나님께서 창조하신 아름다운 세상을 보여주고 있다. 그들도 녹색사막이 생기면 사라질 것이다.
그는 매일 소나무 위에서 편지를 쓴다. 그 편지는 하나님께 드리는 기도요, 뭇사람들과 생명들에게 보내는 메시지요, 신앙고백이다. 그의 편지 한 토막을 들여다 본다.

일상생활 가운데 보물이 숨겨져 있다, 루미의 지혜다. 그 지혜를 내 눈으로, 내 몸으로 깨우치는 과정이다.

아침, 천막을 열면, 천막 안에서는 볼 수 없었던 숲이 그대로 눈에 들어온다. 안개마저 자욱하여 그 신비함을 더하는 소나무들이 숲으로 펼쳐지는 것이다. 천막을 걷어내는 일, 한대수님은 '장막을 거둬라'라고 노래했다.

숲이 있다. 아름다운 생명의 일체가 보이는 거다. 천막을 걷을 때 내 눈에 비늘을 떨쳐낼 때 '이미 거기 있는 숲'이 보이는 거다. 천막 안에 웅크리고 앉아 '숲은 어디에 있는 거야?', '도대체 나무들이 어디에 서 있는 거야?' 묻지 말자. 가로막힌 천막을 살짝 걷어내면 그 장엄한 광경이 눈앞에 있다. (하략)

그는 소나무 위에서 이미 보물을 발견했다. 천막을 열면서 '자신의 눈에 비늘을 떨쳐내는', 즉 '장님이 눈을 뜨는' 기적을 체험한 사람이다. 장님이 눈을 뜨는 기적, 그것은 단지 육체적인 눈뜸을 의미하는 것만이 아니라 영혼의 눈을 뜨는 일이다.

농성 100일째를 맞이하여 한국기독교장로회 인천노회 교회와사회위원회와 총회본부 관계자들이 함께 모여 예배를 드렸다. '백일축하예배(?)'라고 하기에는 슬프고, 또 한편으로는 목사 중에서 윤인중 목사와 같은 보물이 있다는 것이 자랑스럽기도 하고, 이렇게라도 하지 않으면 누구 하나 관심을 둬주지 않은 말 못하는 뭇 자연들의 아픔으로 마음이 저려져 온다.

계양산의 생명과 평화를 위한 예배를 통해 말씀을 전한 박종렬(인천참여자치연대 상임대표) 목사는 계양산을 지키는 윤인중 목사에게 매일 편지만 받았다면 답장을 썼다.

며칠 전 새벽부터 봄비가 내렸습니다. 개나리도 꽃망울을 떠뜨리고 나뭇가지에 새 잎도 봄비를 맞아 힘껏 솟아난 듯했습니다. 윤 목사님은 소나무 숲 위에서 비를 맞으며 어떤 묵상에 잠겨 있었는지 궁금하군요.

녹색연합의 신정은 간사가 나무 위에 56일을 있었고 아마도 윤 목사님은 100일이 다 되어가는 듯합니다. 긴 겨울 동안 계양산 골프장 반대를 위한 주민들의 의지를 모으기 위해, 계양산의 나무와 새들과 뭇 생명들을 지키기 위해, 윤목사님은 보이지 않는 마음의 힘에 이끌려 소나무 숲에 올랐을 것입니다.

자연 가운데 산과 숲이 인간에게 주는 엄청난 혜택과 고마움 그리고 우리가 자연과 더불어 살아야 하는 이유에 대해서도 그동안 윤목사님은 '계양산 숲의 일기'를 통해 우리에게 많은 것을 깨우쳐 주었습니다.

특히 '숨을 쉰다'는 것은 모든 생명이 공유하는 것이고 서로 주고받는 것이고 하나님의 생명을 느끼는 기운임을 고요한 숲 속에서 윤목사님은 가슴 깊이 새기게 됨을 우리에게 누누이 말하였습니다. … (중략) ….

사실 물질문명에 사로잡혀 있고 눈에 보이는 욕망과 자기 이기심에 사로잡혀 있는 우리에게는 보이지 않는 뭇 생명과 영혼들이 우리에게 보내는 사랑의 메시지를 들을 수가 없습니다. 아니 진정 생명의 삶이 무엇인지 경고하는 메시지를 알아들을 수 있을 만큼의 영적 성숙이 안 되어 있음을 깨닫지 못하고 있습니다.

윤 목사님! 사실 우리가 먼저 자연의 생명적 삶과 하나임을 아는 자각이 필요함을 절감합니다. 이런 자각이 우리 모두에게 일어나 롯데건설 측과 우리 시민들과 인천 시장을 비롯한 자치단체장들이 함께 계양산을 보전하고 살리는 꿈과 비전을 협의하여 계양산 살리기에 앞장서는 그날이 오기를 기대해 봅니다. (3007.03.29)

어쩌면 생각보다 나무 위 농성이 더 길어질지도 모르겠다며 웃음 짓는 윤인중 목사를 보며 함께 한 이들이 "이제 윤인중 목사가 나무 위에서 하나님의 아름다운 창조세계를 음미하는 재미에 빠진 모양"이라며 함께 기도를 나누었다.

윤인중 목사는 지역 교회들마다 각 지역의 현안들에 대해 관심을 두고 그 일을 위해 연합하고 매진한다면 한국교회가 좀 더 건강해질 것이라고 힘주어 말한다.

환경문제뿐 아니라 한미FTA 문제도 그 심각성을 알리고, 함께 그 일을 위해 신앙인의 양심으로 행동하는 일이 절실한 시대에서 오늘의 신앙인들은 지나칠 정도로 침묵하고 있는 것은 아닐까? 예배에 함께 한 이태영(기독교농촌개발원장) 목사는 현재 '이 땅의 가난한 자들을 위한 12제자 40일 연속금식기도회'를 진행하고 있다. 서로 다른 곳에서 다른 문제를 가지고 기도하는 것 같지만 결국 그 모든 일들은 하나가 아니런가!

그렇다. 그들은 한 지체라는 증거를 여기에서 보여주고 있는 것이다. 기적이 먼 곳에 있는 것이 아니라 지금 여기에 있다. 서로 멀리 있으면서도 서로 위해 기도해 줄 수 있다는 것도 기적이다.

어서 완연한 봄이 왔으면 좋겠다. 그리고 소나무 농성도 어서 끝났으면 좋겠다. 저런 외침이 없어도 모든 생명들이 더불어 살아갈 수 있는 나라, 가난한 이들이 통곡하지 않는 나라가 봄처럼 우리 곁에 다가오면 좋겠다.
