한탄강댐 건설반대 철원군투쟁위원회는 23일 한탄강댐 건설 예정지가 지진에 취약하다며 댐 건설 백지화를 요구했다.
투쟁위원회는 성명에서 "건설 예정지인 경기도 연천군 고문리 일대는 수차례 화산 폭발로 지하에 거미줄 같이 얽힌 동굴과 화산 활동이 끝나지 않은 활성 단층이 존재한다"면서 "2002년 12월 10일에는 철원군 북쪽 6에서 규모 3.8의 지진이, 2005년 3월 23일에는 철원군청 북쪽에서 규모 2.5의 지진이 각각 발생했다"고 지적했다.
투쟁위원회는 또 "미국과 일본, 인도 등 세계 각국에서 물을 담수하면서 수압에 의해 '유발 지진'이 발생하고 있다"며 "한탄강에 대규모 댐이 건설될 경우, 경기 북부와 파주 문산읍 시가지를 수장시킬 물폭탄이 될 가능성이 높기 때문에 당장 백지화해야 한다"고 주장했다.
